Another S. Korean researcher accused of faking data
Another prominent South Korean biomedical researcher stands accused of faking data that appeared in prestigious scientific journals. The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology says that Kim Tae-kook manipulated photos to produce fraudulent data for studies that purported to open the way to develop new cancer medications that targeted cancer cells without harming normal tissue or material needed to prolong life. The articles appeared more than two years ago in Science and in a 2006 issue of Nature Chemicalbiology.
"Professor Kim manipulated microscopic photos to fabricate study results," said Lee Gyun-Min, head of KAIST's Department of Biological Sciences. In another high profile case, Science retracted two articles from Hwang Woo-Suk two years ago when he was exposed for publishing fraudulent data from his now notorious stem-cell research work.
